Throughout the journey of building CRU by Darbie Angell, I have centered my company on three pillars:
Family, Fashion Forward Designs and Impacting the World through the company.
I began CRU by Darbie Angell when I was put on bedrest at 20 weeks pregnant with my daughter, and I wanted to reflect the same values I share with my girls in my work family as well.
My goal has always been to show my girls how to live out their dreams and to use their talents in ways we can impact lives around us. Just as important is the lesson that they see me live every day. When we fall we get back up and push forward.
Love this picture that a manager on the floor got of my daughter's first trip out to do Comp Shopping! Very important skills that require wearing a cute bun and Minnie Mouse heels from Halloween :-)
Fashion Forward Designs
I vividly remember going to a professor in college seeking out advice on career paths that she thought I could pursue. I had so much passion and drive to create and was sure there was more out there than what I was being shown. Her response was with my skill set I would more than likely become an assistant in a design firm. Hearing the certainty in her voice and lack of choice for my future only fueled my fire to create in a larger way.
I founded CRU by Darbie Angell with the idea that I could Impact the World One Plate at a Time through my passion for design. I began creating, and since then, life has never been the same! Thanks for being a part of this journey!
Impacting the World
80% of our goods are made in Bangladesh. When I started working with our factories the men wouldn't even speak to me directly. Within an hour of being on the ground in their country I felt that I was there for a reason. The sites I have seen are things that they should not have to endure. After working with them for a few months and them seeing I was standing firm on my placement they were able to see my heart and desire to better their lives through our partnership. I began urging the empowerment of more women to give them a voice in their families as well as impact the lives of future generations. Since the start, over 50% of the working population at the factory is now women (as opposed to five in the beginning), and we now are building schools in our factories so that the mothers will bring their children to work and they will be given an education and a chance to live out their wildest dreams.

So we all want to feel refreshed each morning and to live each day happily, but sometimes it's easy to get bogged down from stress and life. It happens!!!
I believe that if you wake up and have a routine that puts you into a better mindset, then you'll be more prepared and ready to take on the world. Mornings set the tone for the whole day, so if you can make time in your schedule for these simple things, your day is going to be better guaranteed!
So wake up and smell the roses! The sun is ready, and so are you! Here's what I do to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the world:
1. Lay out your clothes the night before
This is way more important than it seems! If you don't have a pre-made plan for the day, you'll start to feel yourself slipping out of place, and becoming less productive. That's no good! This little trick will make you feel super prepared. Like your life is laid out for you -- literally!
2. Preset your coffee maker
Okay this goes hand-in-hand with the last one. But also, having your coffee ready for you is even more beneficial because it's coffee! In case you don't already know, I LOVE my coffee. I'm convinced it's actually good for you! I wrote a post on why coffee is good for your health earlier in case you're interested. Having it ready to go with no fuss makes life feel so much easier. You just walk into the kitchen and it's ready to go!
3. Wake up earlier!
This one can be tough, but I promise you, it's worth it!!! Don't rush yourself first thing! You'll feel grumpy and pressured first thing in the morning, and that's a terrible way to start your day. Give yourself some extra time in case something goes wrong, or if you decide you need to have some time to yourself.
Also, don't be afraid to go to bed earlier. I know, it's a crazy idea, but you can do it!
4. Open the curtains! (or mini blinds)
There's just something wonderful about opening the blinds and seeing the sunshine. It's like you can brighten your day (hah) in one little act! Also, natural light can help you to wake up more. Let there be light!
5. Drink water
I know, if you're anything like me, you're probably VERY attached to your coffee, but you should also be drinking water too! I promise your coffee won't get mad!
Water helps you to focus, gets rid of those annoying morning headaches, and keeps you hydrated, so you're ready for anything! Drink up! Coffee will have to wait.
6. Get your exercise on!
Okay I know it's rough to wake up and think about sweating your butt off first thing, but the mentality and the endorphins it brings afterwards are TOTALLY worth it! Once you get moving, your body will thank you. Plus, it's also a great way to meditate, get out of the house, and to just be by yourself for a little bit.
7. Set a goal
What's the point of going through a whole day without any hope towards bettering yourself or your work? Whether you have spiritual, emotional, physical, or business goals, daily tasks are vital in achieving them. Think of a goal every day and meditate on that goal and how you will go about making it happen throughout your morning routine.
8. Actually eat breakfast!!!
Some people INSIST that they don't need breakfast. That's just silly. You need food to live! Why starve yourself all morning? Breakfast will wake you up and give you the energy you need to get through the day. It doesn't have to be a lot, and it doesn't have to be anything fancy, just make sure you're maintaining healthy habits.
9. Have a killer beauty routine
So sometimes, I just need a little pick-me-up to kickstart my day. When I go through my beauty routine with my favorite makeup and hairstyle I am confident and comfortable, I feel AWESOME! Dress for success y'all!
10. Meditate, journal, read!
Again this is crazy. I know! Setting aside time to relax and focus on yourself, and in the morning too! Whatever your style is (ie. yoga, stretches, journaling, reading the bible, prayer...) DO YOUR THING!!! If you know doing something will make you happier and more at peace, do it! It doesn't have to be long. Even 10 minutes is helpful. Just remember to ACTUALLY DO IT!
I hope that helped y'all to build your morning so you have a solid foundation for a great day!
Send us your morning routines too!
